Mechanical Fall – Definition

A mechanical fall is a type of fall that occurs due to a failure or malfunction of a mechanical device or piece of equipment. This could include falls from heights due to a ladder or scaffold collapsing, falls due to a failure of safety equipment such as a harness or safety line, or falls due to a malfunction of a machine or other piece of equipment. Or, in this case, falls from a walker, wheelchair, off a scooter, etc. Mechanical falls can be very serious and result in severe injuries or even death. It’s important to properly maintain and inspect all mechanical equipment to help prevent mechanical falls from occurring.
